Interesting revolver! 5 inch octagon barrel clearly stamped "W.L. Grant" on the top flat. Additionally the butt is stamped "USN" in tiny letters. This pistol was a product of William Uhlingers gun works in Philadelphia 1860-65. Mr. Uhlinger operated in defiance of the patent infringment of Smith and Wesson on the bored thru cylinder patent.

Uhlinger produced these revolvers between 1861 and 1865. Revolver has a 4.00 inch octagon.32 barrel that retains 85% of the original blue. Top flat is strongly stamped “W. L. GRANT” on a slight slant. Bore is good but dirty.

This is one of the most popular side arms of the Civil War but they had to keep changing and adding new names in order to avoid detection by Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White Patent.
